I Boyzone sono il primo gruppo pop a mostrare una coppia gay in un loro video. Stephen Gately, uno dei cantanti della band britannica, ha girato alcune scene romantiche con un attore per il video della canzone Better, cover del cantautore Tom Baxter, mentre gli altri membri del gruppo, tutti eterosessuali, hanno girato le scene con delle attrici.
”Per me si tratta soltanto di essere me stesso e non ci vedo nulla di strano – ha detto Gately, omosessuale e ‘sposato’ in unione civile con il suo partner – Trovo il video molto bello e penso che funzioni benissimo con la canzone”. La band irlandese aveva inizialmente pensato di includere i propri partner nel video ma quando questi hanno rifiutato, hanno deciso di sostituirli con degli attori.
Gately ha dichiarato che la decisione di utilizzare un attore uomo nel suo caso è stata presa da tutta la band. ”I ragazzi mi hanno detto: devi farlo, sarebbe fantastico. E’ la prima volta che viene fatta una cosa del genere e io ho accettato”, ha detto.
